John Harrison joined Affton as our new pastor on Christmas Eve, 2015, and he was ordained in March, 2016 as a Pastor and Evangelist in Giddings-Lovejoy Presbytery. Originally from Atlanta, GA, he went to college at Harvard and completed seminary in Austin, TX at Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary. Between college and seminary, John worked as an editor, as a freelancer and as a kayak guide in Kenai Fjords National Park in Seward, Alaska. While he was in Austin, his ministry experiences included working as a chaplain in the Travis County Jail and helping to lead worship at New Covenant Fellowship of Austin (a small, multi-cultural PCUSA church). John currently serves on the board of Prison Congregations of America, an ecumenical organization that has planted over 30 churches inside prisons across the United States.
He is married to Michelle Bach, who is currently in her fourth year of the MD/PhD program at SLU. In his free time, he enjoys coffee, movies, rock climbing, camping and keeping up with old friends. He is on fire for the Lord, and he feels closest to the resurrection when unlikely friendships transform into a community.
